About The Role

Role Purpose

The Head of Academy Performance is responsible for leading and delivering the performance strategy across Salford City FC’s Academy, ensuring the physical, technical, tactical, and psychological development of players aligns with the Club’s philosophy and EPPP standards.

This role drives a high-performance environment that maximises player development, supports progression into the First Team, and ensures best-in-class provision across sports science, analysis, and performance services.

 

Key Responsibilities

Performance Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement a holistic Academy Performance Plan aligned with Salford City FC’s playing philosophy and long-term vision.
  • Lead and manage all performance-related functions including sports science, strength & conditioning, analysis, and performance support services.
  • Contribute to the Academy Management Team to shape overall strategy and continuous improvement.

 

Player Development & Performance

  • Design and oversee individual player development plans (IDPs) with a clear focus on progression and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure all players receive age-appropriate, evidence-based physical and performance support.
  • Collaborate closely with coaching staff to integrate performance into the training and match environment.
  • Support the transition of players through the pathway into the First Team.

 

Sports Science & Performance Services

  • Lead the delivery of sports science services including physical testing, monitoring, injury risk reduction, and return-to-play processes.
  • Implement data-driven approaches to optimise player performance and availability.
  • Ensure all performance practices reflect current best practice within elite football.

 

Analysis & Data Insights

  • Oversee performance analysis provision across all Academy age groups.
  • Use data and video analysis to inform coaching, player development, and decision-making.
  • Establish clear performance metrics and reporting structures aligned with EPPP standards.

 

Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with medical, coaching, education, and safeguarding staff to provide a holistic development environment.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary meetings to review player progress.
  • Engage with parents/guardians where appropriate to support player development.

 

People Leadership

  • Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team of performance practitioners.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and excellence.
  • Support staff CPD and ensure alignment to club values and standards.

 

Governance, Compliance & EPPP

  • Ensure full compliance with the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) and relevant governing body requirements.
  • Prepare for and contribute to Premier League audits and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records, reporting, and documentation of performance activities.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, equality, and welfare.
