About The Role

Reporting to: Head of Academy Medical / Academy Sports Rehabilitator

Contract Type: Fixed-term, 12 months

Hours: 20 hours per week (Evening and weekend work is a mandatory requirement of the role)

Locations: Vale Park, Roe Lane, Keele University, Alsager

Role Purpose

To implement the Academy Medical and Sports Science programme, providing prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries to players in the Professional Development Phase, Foundation and Youth Development age groups at Port Vale Football Club.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver medical services throughout the Academy age groups, providing diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to players.
  • Collaborate with all staff within the Academy Medical Department and wider MDT staff.
  • Contribute towards the Key Performance Indicators of the Medical department.
  • Ensure appropriate recovery and injury prevention strategies are adopted after games and on recovery days.
  • Produce regular reports regarding the progress of each player within the Academy and to ensure that the appropriate Medical information is added to each player’s Football Intelligence Platform.
  • Ensure that the management of injuries effectively meets the Club’s commitments to players, coaches and senior management through clinical audit and accurate documentation.
  • Ensure that the appropriate medical equipment is present at Academy training sessions and games, always in line with Youth Development Regulations.
  • Provide sport science support in the following areas;
    • Physiology (heart rate monitoring of training load)
    • Biomechanics
    • Anthropometric assessments
    • Age appropriate medical and physical screening
    • Predictive testing of size and shape/maturation measurement
  • Undertake personal CPD as appropriate to meet the demands of the role.
  • Ensure the adherence to GDPR and the principles of confidentiality within Code of Conduct of professional body and the club policies.
  • Always maintain honesty and integrity when working with players at the Club.
  • Be presentable, smart, and personable at all times when representing the Club.
  • Undertake all reasonable tasks requested by the Academy Management Team.

Qualifications

Essentials

BSc in Physiotherapy

CSP Chartered Physiotherapist

HCPC registration

Valid FA Safeguarding Children Certificate

Valid enhanced DBS check

Full UK Driving Licence

Desirables

MSc in Physiotherapy

Valid Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) or Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)

Additional qualifications in Sport Science

Working Hours:

This role is contracted at 20 hours per week. Working hours are subject to the operational needs of the Academy and may vary accordingly. Flexibility may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: 11:00-19:00

Wednesday: 18:00-21:00

Thursday: 18:00-20:00

Friday: OFF

Saturday: 09:00-13:00

Sunday: 09:00-13:00
