Accrington Stanley is an English professional football club based in Accrington, Lancashire. The team competes in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system, as of the 2023/24 season.
The club was originally founded in 1891 but folded in 1966. A "phoenix club" was later reformed in 1968 under the same name. Accrington Stanley is often seen as a symbol of resilience and grass-roots football in England. They famously gained wider recognition through a 1980s milk advert, which poked fun at their then lower-league status with the line:
"Accrington Stanley? Who are they?"
Their home ground is the Crown Ground, also known as the Wham Stadium, which has a modest capacity of around 5,450. Despite their small size, the club has achieved significant successes, such as gaining promotion to League One in 2018.
