About The Role

The Head of Community will work alongside the Board of Trustees to:

  • Ensure all legislative requirements are met that apply to BACT operational and charity governance.
  • Ensure policies are in place to provide a clear framework for the effective management of BACT.
  • Ensure diversity in the Board of Trustees, reflecting best practice and recruitment and selection of Trustees.
  • An effective induction and on-going Board development programme, ensuring that the Board are kept aware of their responsibilities and new developments on BACT practices.
  • Prepare and publish the Annual Report and Financial accounts
  • Establish the annual budget for BACT.
  • Provide advice and guidance on strategic management to the Board.
  • Convening and servicing meetings of the Board and any working groups.

    The Head of Community is responsible for:

  • Overseeing the delivery of a long-term agreed strategy.
  • Producing and delivering annual operational plans to meet the objectives of the Trust’s long-term strategy.
  • Providing regular reports to the Board on the Trusts agreed business plan.
  • Ensuring infrastructure (staff, volunteers and committees) are in place to develop, deliver, monitor, evaluate and report strategic plan.
  • Provide an annual budget.
  • Financial Management of all areas of BACT including financial stability.
  • Lead development and maintenance of relationships with external funders, sponsors, especially developing an effective working relationship with Burton Albion FC.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective internal and external communication systems to manage and promote BACT.
  • Overseeing BAFC relationship including matchday activity, charity donations, collections and player appearances.
  • Ensuring BAFC and BACT are represented within local, regional and national networking, partnership and strategic events.
  • Develop new commercial partnerships and sponsorships for BACT, and manage the BAFC partnership.
  • CSR objectives.
  • The monitoring and evaluation of the strategic aims and objectives of BACT.
  • Setting clear KPIs for senior management team to cascade throughout the organisation. Being the Senior Safeguarding Manager for BACT.
  • Being the most senior person accountable for Health and Safety at BACT.

Essential Experience and Knowledge

Organisational Development: Proven track record in shaping and evolving organisational structures, systems, and ways of working to enhance effectiveness and impact.

Commercial Acumen: Demonstrate ability to develop and diversify income streams, with a strong understanding of financial sustainability in a charitable context.

Sector Insight: Clear understanding of the role charitable organisations—ideally within the sporting sector, play in community regeneration and social impact.

Strategic Leadership: Experience in senior leadership roles, including strategic oversight of high-value partnerships and stakeholder engagement.

Charity Governance: In-depth knowledge of charity governance and senior-level management within the third sector.

 

Skills and Attributes

Financial Competence: Solid understanding of operational budgeting and strategic financial planning, coupled with the ability to analyze and manage financial data effectively.

Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead diverse teams, foster inclusive cultures, and drive organisational values. Skilled in motivating and empowering staff to achieve their best.

Communication Excellence: Exceptional communication skills, both internal and external, with experience in conflict resolution and relationship building.

Safeguarding and EDI: Knowledge and experience in overseeing Safeguarding and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, ensuring best practices are embedded across the organisation.
