The Finance Manager plays a key role in the effective day-to-day financial management of Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation, ensuring accurate and timely financial information, robust financial controls and efficient finance processes.
Working closely with the Head of Finance and Administration, the postholder will be responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, cash-flow forecasts and financial information to support budgeting, forecasting and decision-making across the Foundation. The role will also oversee key financial processes including payroll, payments, expenses, internal recharges and financial systems.
The Finance Manager will coordinate and review the day-to-day work of the Finance Coordinator, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and on time and that effective financial records and controls are maintained. The postholder will work closely with budget holders and colleagues across the Foundation, providing practical financial support and helping to promote strong financial management throughout the organisation.
The role will support the Head of Finance and Administration with year-end accounts, external audit, funder reporting and the continued development of the Foundation's financial systems and processes.
The Opportunity
Management Accounting and Financial Planning
Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including reconciliations, variance analysis and supporting schedules, for review by the Head of Finance and Administration.
Prepare and maintain monthly cash-flow forecasts, monitoring the Foundation's cash position and highlighting significant movements or emerging issues to the Head of Finance and Administration.
Support the Head of Finance and Administration with the annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting processes, working with budget holders to prepare and maintain detailed budgets and forecasts.
Manage the monthly recharge process and other internal cost allocations, ensuring expenditure and income are appropriately allocated across the Foundation.
Provide financial information and practical support to budget holders, helping them understand financial performance and manage their budgets effectively.
Financial Operations and Controls
·Oversee the effective operation of day-to-day financial processes, including payroll, expenses, supplier payments, HMRC payments, treasury activities and compliance with the Foundation's financial policies and procedures.
Ensure balance sheet accounts and other financial records are regularly reconciled and that outstanding items are investigated and resolved promptly.
Coordinate, prioritise and review the day-to-day work of the Finance Coordinator, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and on time and robust financial records and controls are maintained.
Work with the Finance Coordinator to ensure the effective allocation and delivery of day-to-day finance and administration activities across the wider team.
Maintain the Foundation's financial systems and associated processes, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, reporting and internal controls and reviewing proposed improvements with the Head of Finance and Administration.
Year End, Audit and Funding
Support the year-end accounts and external audit process by preparing reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation and financial information requested by the Head of Finance and Administration and external auditors.
Produce financial information to support grant applications, project monitoring, funder claims and other reporting requirements.
Support the production of financial information for the Foundation's Annual Financial Impact Report and other organisational reporting.
Systems and Organisational Support
Support the Head of Finance and Administration in maintaining and improving financial policies, procedures, systems and controls, identifying opportunities to improve financial performance, efficiency and financial management.
Use financial systems, Excel and other digital tools effectively to improve the efficiency and quality of financial processes and reporting.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Foundation, providing financial information and support in a clear and accessible way.
Deputise for the Head of Finance and Administration on routine operational finance matters during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of the Foundation's day-to-day finance function.
Working Pattern
Part-time, 30 hours a week. Monday to Friday between 9.00 am-5.30 pm to be agreed with the successful applicant.
