About The Role

As the Lead YDP Therapist for the U13 – U16 age groups, you are responsible for overseeing and delivering all aspects of medical provision, including injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols, in line with EPPP and club standards. You will be the medical cover for training evenings specifically on a Monday and Wednesday, and match days for the YDP age groups.

In this role, you will manage communication with parents and MDT for players in the YDP and organise clinic schedules, rehabilitation plans and return to training and matches.

Working closely with coaches, parents and performance staff, you help deliver a holistic, child-centred approach to player health, with a strong focus on safeguarding, wellbeing, and long-term athletic development. 

  • Lead and manage medical provision for the YDP including age-appropriate injury prevention, movement and postural screening, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Provide weekly updates on player availability and rehabilitation progress to the YDP MDT in a timely manner.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual injury audits to identify trends, inform injury prevention strategies, and support continuous improvement in medical provision.
  • Liaise with the Performance Department to optimise return to play guidelines, movement and postural screening and any other processes required.
  • Provide pitch-side emergency care and maintain ITMMiF certification.
  • Ensure regular medical equipment checks are carried out, and contribute to the production, maintenance and stress testing of EAPs.
  • Maintain clinical records in line with HCPC and GDPR standards; ensure all notes are logged within 24 hours.
  • To ensure all clinical examinations and therapeutic interventions are documented via KitmanLabs and communicated to relevant staff.
  • Build and maintain strong interdisciplinary relationships with staff in Performance, Coaching, Education, Player Care, Operations and Recruitment.
  • To assist in departmental CPD training programmes.

  • Degree in Sports Therapy 
  • HCPC (Desirable) 
  • FA Safeguarding
  • Familiar of the EPPP and medical protocols in academy football
  •  Committed, enthusiastic and passionate about the development of players in the youth development phase
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills with a variety of different personnel at the Club
  •  An understanding of a range of teaching/learning styles to optimise the development of young players
  •  Able to communicate effectively with players, parents and fellow staff members at all levels
  •  Be an approachable and accommodating figure for youth team players to work with.
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and Kit Man Labs to a high standard.
  • Able to adapt to the demands of the job and the needs of the players.
  • Dedicated to self-improvement and continuous professional development
  • Available on a Tuesday and Thursday evening and across a weekend for matches with potential support across wider academy activity when required
