You will work with the Head of Academy Recruitment, Scouting and Recruitment Lead and other scouts to identify and evaluate potential football talent for the academy’s youth development program.
Working across a defined region, the role involves attending matches, training sessions, and tournaments to spot emerging players with the potential to develop within the academy. The Academy Scout plays a key part in shaping the future of the academy.
Key Role Accountabilities:
- Safeguarding: To always ensure & positively promote the safeguarding of young people before anything else.
- Talent Identification: Work in collaboration with the Scouting and Recruitment Phase lead, attend matches across the grassroots and pro-academy game, tournaments, training sessions, and scouting events to observe players. Identify players who demonstrate exceptional potential: technical ability, tactical understanding, physical attributes, and mental resilience. Use video footage (where available) to supplement the recruitment process.
- Geographical Coverage: Establish a strong presence within your assigned region. Provide consistent updates to the Head of Academy Recruitment and Scouting and Recruitment Phase Lead, including ground information, competitor activity, and overall insights about the region.
- Report Writing: Produce insightful written scouting reports within the agreed timeframe that assess a player’s performance and potential in accordance with the club’s player metrics. Assign gradings and provide a detailed player summary including potential fit and depth chart considerations.
- Player Feedback: To be involved with the internal club feedback process when directed, to ensure a 360 approach to player feedback.
- Tracking and Monitoring: Be a diligent and proficient user of the club’s recruitment and tracking system to ensure all your recruitment activities and players are captured in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with local clubs, coaches, parents, and schools, while regularly communicating with recruitment staff to build a trusted reputation that ensures early access to emerging talent.
- Compliance and Safeguarding: To assist the Head of Academy Recruitment & Operations Manager where necessary to ensure compliance within league, competition and licence rules & regulations. To work with the Operations Manager & administrators on all appropriate team administration. To ensure adherence to and excels youth development rules.
- Learning Environment: To uphold and promote a positive and professional learning environment and culture of high standards across the academy at all times.
