About The Role

Job title: Lead Safeguarding Manager Portsmouth Football Club & Pompey in the Community

Location: Across all Portsmouth FC sites and Pompey in the Community (PiTC)

Hours of work: Full-time - 2 days per week at PiTC and 3 days at PFC (including of a match days) ; Matchday commitment: Required to work all home matchdays to provide safeguarding support for matchday operations

Remuneration : £28,000 - £30,000 per annum

Portsmouth Football Club and Pompey in the Community (PiTC) are looking for an experienced, forward-thinking Lead Safeguarding Manager to take charge of safeguarding across two respected and high-profile organisations.

This is not your average safeguarding role. You will be the lead for safeguarding across our professional football club, academy, and wide-ranging community programmes – ensuring the safety and well-being of children, young people, and Adults at Risk in everything we do.

Reporting jointly to both PFC and PiTC leadership, you will be at the heart of safeguarding strategy, compliance, and culture. You will provide expert guidance to staff, oversee investigations, maintain vital relationships with external safeguarding partners, and ensure we meet all regulatory requirements set by the EFL, FA, and beyond.

From matchdays at Fratton Park to community outreach events to Academy safeguarding support, this role offers variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

Requirements of the role

In this role, you will take on a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Designing and delivering the safeguarding strategy across PFC and PiTC.
  • Leading safeguarding operations at all sites, including matchdays and special events.
  • Supporting and advising Designated Safeguarding Officers across the Club, Academy, and community programmes.
  • Managing safeguarding cases, ensuring accurate and compliant record-keeping.
  • Overseeing safer recruitment processes and safeguarding training for all staff.
  • Leading on safeguarding risk assessment and policy development.
  • Acting as the main safeguarding contact for players, parents, staff, and visitors.
  • Building strong relationships with the FA, EFL, local authorities, and other safeguarding bodies.
  • To encourage and endorse good practice by promoting and championing safeguarding across the club.
  • To attend regular safeguarding meetings and training to ensure knowledge is up to date.
  • To deliver safeguarding training to staff throughout the club and PITC
  • This role requires you to work all PFC matchdays to provide safeguarding support for matchday operations

About The Candidate

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Up-to-date and thorough knowledge of safeguarding principles, including Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Proven safeguarding experience within sport or education (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, policies, and best practice standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in safeguarding case management, including sensitive and complex cases.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Proactive, calm, and solutions-focused approach, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, constructive guidance.
  • FA Safeguarding Children Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to starting).
  • EFL Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Officer qualification (or willingness to complete upon appointment).
  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS check (to be completed before employment commences).
