About The Role

Cheltenham Town FC Academy is welcoming applications for an Academy Goalkeeping Coach (casual) who will support the planning and implementation of our Academy goalkeeping development strategy.

We are looking for an individual who can support the development of our foundation phase goalkeepers and be able to communicate effectively with key stakeholders.

The Academy Goalkeeping Coach will report to the Academy Head of Coaching and the Academy Lead Goalkeeping Coach and have responsibility for the planning, delivery and reflection of the foundation phase GK training sessions and match day support.

The role would suit someone with knowledge of coaching in the local community who is seeking to gain coaching experience within an Academy setting. The ideal candidate will hold the FA National Goalkeeping Course and the UEFA C.

The role is casual with sessions typically on a Wednesday evening and fixtures on a Sunday. At present, the role would be paid in line with the national living wage.

The successful candidate will be joining an ambitious Category 3 Academy with a dedicated and experienced staff that is striving to be the best they possibly can be.

Responsible to: Academy Head of Coaching and Academy Lead Goalkeeping Coach

Build Relationships with

Internal: Academy Manager, lead Phase Coaches, Coaches (Part Time), Heads of department, First Team staff, Player Care Manager and Players.

External: Premier League clubs & Football League clubs, FA, Universities/colleges, FAYCD, and PFA.

  • Flexible working arrangements/hours
  • Required to work outside of normal office hours, at evenings and weekends, on bank holidays and public holidays.
  • Required to work across different bases

 Travel: Regularly travel to fixtures, meetings and other events concerning the performance of the duties detailed below.

 Overall purpose of the job

Support the Lead Phase Coaches and Academy Head of Goalkeeping with football and holistic development of the Goalkeepers within the academy. Responsible for implementing individual learning plans in line with the club coaching and playing philosophy for Goalkeepers.  

 Key Tasks & Responsibilities

 Coaching Curriculum, Playing and Coaching Philosophy

  • Deliver the Academy’s GK Coaching Curriculum and ensure it is consistently delivered in line with the Academy’s (and/or Club’s) Playing Philosophy and Coaching Philosophy.
  • Have an input into coaches' matchday/individual objectives on a match basis.
  • Adhere to matchday protocol.
  • Ensure the minimum player-to-coach ratio for all sessions and matches are met 10:1 ratio.

Games Programme

  • Attend academy games and deliver GK warm-ups and provide match-day input for GKs
 Reviews
  • Provide feedback on players to the Academy Lead GK Coach and to Lead Phases promptly to support the MDT review process.
 CPD
  • Attend CPD as delivered by the Academy and complete a minimum of 5 hours of CPD accredited by the FA.
Such other duties as may be appropriate to achieve the objectives of the post and to assist the Academy Manager

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • National Goalkeeping Course (Essential)
  • UEFA C (Essential)
  • UEFA B GK Coaching Licence (working towards / willingness to complete)
  • UEFA B Coaching Licence (working towards / willingness to complete)
  • Safeguarding and Protecting Children
  • Emergency First Aid In Football (EFAiF) (willing to complete)
 Required Experience

Knowledge and/or experience of at least 3 of the following:

  • The process of learning in young people (pedagogy)
  • Running and designing development programmes
  • Football coaching (GK specific)
  • Leading a team
  • Managing people
  • Sports Psychology

ICT experience of PMA, excel, word and any other software as required to carry out the duties required for the job.

Other Requirements

  • Have a full clean driving licence
  • DBS clearance
