About The Role

Role Accountabilities & Key Duties
 
  • Ensure high standards of medical services for Academy players of all ages.
  • Assess and treat any injuries / conditions U18 and Development Squad players may present with, in line with the department philosophy; Schoolboy players to be assessed and treated as required; discuss individual treatment and rehabilitation programmes with the Academy Chartered Physiotherapists and Club Doctors.
  • Liaise with external healthcare professionals as and when required under the guidance of the Lead Academy Doctor and Lead Academy Performance Physio assist with onward referral for appropriate treatment if required.
  • Follow the ‘one club’ philosophy of the medical department; involve First Team medical staff in the management of Academy players and support First Team staff as required.
  • Contribute to the strategy of the medical department.
  • To be responsible, with the Lead Academy Doctor & Lead Academy Performance Physio for emergency action plans and relevant health and safety processes.
  • To have an involvement in the screening processes including pre-scholar signings, preseason examinations, cardiac screening and concussion baseline testing; assist in any subsequent investigation that may be appropriate.
  • To be available out of hours to discuss on injuries / conditions with the Academy Chartered Physiotherapists and the Club Doctor, and to provide advise as required; to have occasional contact with players out of hours.
  • Provide medical input on matchdays, primarily but not exclusively for the U18 squad as required by the Lead Academy Doctor and Lead Academy Performance Physio.
  • Produce up-to-date high-quality medical notes within 24 hours of assessment / treatment and logged onto the club’s current database; in line with General Medical Council (GMC) guidelines, ensure all medical records and injury data are recorded, accurate injury logs are maintained for audit purposes.
  • To maintain knowledge and understanding of the FA Doping programme and the legislation; to ensure the Club fulfils all its requirements under the FA Doping Programme.
  • Ensure the relationship with children and vulnerable adults is appropriate and language, behaviours and demeanour is suitable.
  • Monitor cleanliness of work-places and equipment; liaising with relevant staff to improve or develop facilities; to be responsible for equipment used in carrying out medical duties.
  • To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping up to date with any trends and developments in the sports injury and performance sector and incorporate them as necessary into your work so as to provide the best possible treatment to all players; being responsible for maintaining written evidence within an up- to-date CPD portfolio; to attend mandatory training and incorporate these within working practices.
  • To contribute to the medical department in-service training programme.
  • To attend Child Protection training and work in accordance with the national guidelines.
  • To act in accordance with the Rules of Professional Conduct and Standards of practice set by the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Cover for First Team training and matches as directed by the Lead Academy Doctor Participate in the appraisal process
  • Comply with all company policies/procedures.
  • Adhere to all company regulations regarding policies, procedures, health, safety, and security.
  • To develop a sound working knowledge of safeguarding children’s regulations, including legislation & governing body rules.
  • All other duties that may arise from time to time and fall within the scope of this position.

About The Candidate

Qualifications
 
  • Medical degree
  •  Post graduate qualification within sport and exercise medicine or a related field of study (desirable)
  •  Current GMC membership
  •  Up-to-date FA Level 5 ATMMiF qualification
  •  FA Safeguarding Children
  •  Enhanced DBS Check
  •  Ultrasound qualification (desirable)
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
 
  • Able to assess injury
  •  Experience of planning and delivering treatment of sports injuries
  • Interest in paediatrics
  •  Previous experience of working with elite level youth  athletes and treating sporting injuries
  •  Good understanding of growth & maturation and its implications on the development of athletes
  •  Experience of working in a professional football club  environment
  • Experience of working in a team environment
  •  IT skills to include a very high level of competence using
  • Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent overall level of numeracy and literacy
