About The Role

JOB PURPOSE

To lead the planning, delivery, and review of age-appropriate coaching sessions that align with the club’s playing philosophy and long-term player development strategy. The Girls’ Academy Coach is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performance learning environment that supports the holistic development of young female players across the five pillars: technical/tactical, physical, psychological, and social. The role plays a key part in identifying and nurturing talent within the girls’ academy pathway, ensuring that all players are supported to reach their full potential both on and off the pitch. The coach will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff to provide a well-rounded player experience and contribute to the club’s overall vision for women’s and girls’ football.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Session Planning & Delivery

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate, engaging, and progressive training sessions.
  • Ensure alignment with the club’s playing philosophy and long-term player development model.
  • Adapt sessions to meet individual learning needs and abilities.

Player Development

  • Monitor and support the technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social development of players.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to players in training and matches.
  • Set and review individual development plans (IDPs) regularly.

Matchday Coaching

  • Lead or assist with matchday preparations, including team selection, warm-up, tactical setup, and in-game coaching.
  • Foster a competitive but positive matchday environment.
  • Record matchday observations for player reviews.

Performance Tracking & Analysis

  • Maintain accurate player attendance, performance logs, and progression records.
  • Use video, data, or written notes to support coaching decisions and feedback.
  • Contribute to player reviews and assessment reports.

Communication & Relationship Building

  • Maintain strong communication with players, parents/carers, and other academy staff.
  • Provide feedback in a development-focused, age-appropriate way.
  • Represent the club professionally in all interactions.

Safeguarding & Welfare

  • Uphold the club’s safeguarding policies and ensure a safe environment for all players.
  • Be alert to and report any welfare concerns appropriately.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and positive team culture.

Collaboration & CPD

  • Work closely with other coaches, medical staff, and the Academy Manager to ensure holistic development.
  • Attend coaching meetings, workshops, and CPD events.
  • Reflect on and refine personal coaching practice.

About The Candidate

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • UEFA B Licence (desirable for lead age group coaches).
  • Proven experience of coaching female players within an academy, grassroots, or elite football environment.
  • Experience delivering age-appropriate coaching sessions in line with a club or programme philosophy.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team (e.g., technical, medical, education & welfare, S&C).
  • A track record of contributing to player development, including technical and tactical improvements and transitions to higher levels of the game.
  • Experience in creating individual development plans (IDPs) and providing regular player feedback.
  • Understanding of the specific needs and challenges in girls’ and women’s football, with a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding.
  • Previous involvement in talent ID and player assessment processes (desirable).
  • Experience in monitoring and reviewing player performance data or using video analysis tools (desirable).
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate or willingness to work towards.
  • Safeguarding qualification or willingness to work towards.

    Demonstrates strong knowledge of coaching principles across the five pillars and can deliver engaging, age-appropriate sessions tailored to player needs.
  • Player-Centred Approach:
    Committed to the holistic development of young players, with a focus on long-term growth over short-term results.
  • Communication Skills:
    Clear, confident communicator who can build positive relationships with players, parents, and colleagues. Able to provide constructive feedback and motivate young players.
  • Organisation & Planning:
    Highly organised, with the ability to plan, deliver, and review coaching programmes and maintain accurate records (e.g., session plans, IDPs, attendance).
  • Reflective Practitioner:
    Willing to self-reflect, accept feedback, and engage in continuous professional development to improve coaching practice.
  • Team Player:
    Collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to a team environment. Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary structure.
  • Safeguarding & Welfare Focus:
    Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and the emotional and psychological needs of young female athletes.
  • Professionalism:
    Acts with integrity, represents the club’s values, and upholds high standards of behaviour both on and off the pitch.
  • Experience using performance analysis tools is desirable.
  • Familiarity with creating and implementing individual learning plans is desirable.
  • Awareness of the FAW Women’s Player Pathway and associated development frameworks is desirable.
  • Ability to adapt coaching style to suit a diverse range of players with varying experience and confidence levels is desirable.
  • Welsh language proficiency (Byddai hyfedredd yn y Gymraeg yn fantais amlwg).
