Bristol City WFC is the only professional women’s football team in the South West of England. The club operates an Emerging Talent Centre for girls aged 10-16, a Category 1 Professional Game Academy and a fully professional first team who are based at the Robins High Performance Centre.

ROLE SUMMARY

Bristol City Women's Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Officer to join our team on a part-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all players, staff, and volunteers within the Academy. This role is crucial in protecting individuals and in promoting a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safeguarding Policies and Procedures:

  • Under the guidance of Bristol City’s Safeguarding team, implement, and maintain safeguarding policies and procedures in line with the Player Care provision, Club policies, FA regulations and best practices.
  • Ensure all staff, coaches, and volunteers are aware of and comply with safeguarding policies.
  • Induct new players into the Club’s programme, catering for individual and specific needs, and assist in exiting player processes.
  • Support the use of “My Concern” to ensure the protection of the player’s right to equality, diversity, inclusion, and confidentiality through regular review.

Risk Assessment and Management:

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential safeguarding issues.
  • Implement measures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe environment for all participants.

Training and Education:

  • Under the guidance of the Club’s Safeguarding Department, organise and deliver safeguarding training sessions for staff, parents, and volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance on safeguarding matters.

Incident Management:

  • Respond promptly and effectively to safeguarding concerns and incidents.
  • Record and report all safeguarding concerns in accordance with Club and FA guidelines.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other departments and external organisations to ensure cohesive safeguarding practices.
  • Liaise regularly with the First Team Safeguarding Lead and other relevant bodies as needed.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of safeguarding activities and incidents.
  • Provide regular reports on safeguarding matters to academy management.

About The Candidate

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Safeguarding qualification and/or relevant experience in a child protection, safeguarding, or welfare role (FA Safeguarding Children Course & the FA Welfare Officers Course)
  • Educated to A Level or equivalent
  • Completion of recognized Designated Safeguarding Officer training
  • Good understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement safeguarding measures
  • Experience in delivering training and education on safeguarding topics
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
