About The Role


Job purpose

The Foundation Phase Coach plays a pivotal role in delivering and evolving the academy’s coaching curriculum for players aged 5–11, ensuring alignment with the Club’s overarching coaching and playing philosophies. This role is responsible for fostering a positive, engaging, and development-focused environment that supports the holistic growth of young players, while also contributing to the broader academy structure through collaboration, compliance, and innovation.

Working within the academy’s competency framework, the coach will contribute to the continuous professional development of staff, support player transitions into the Youth Development Phase, and ensure all practices meet the standards outlined in the Academy Performance Plan (APP) and Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).

The role also involves integrating multi-disciplinary approaches into planning and delivery, maintaining accurate performance data and contributing to strategic academy meetings. A key aspect of the role includes the design and implementation of a Futsal programme to enhance technical development within the Foundation phase.
 
 

Coaching delivery & curriculum implementation

·         Lead, supervise, and manage all football activities for the 9–11 age group.

  • Implement the U16, U18, U21, and First Team playing and coaching strategies into the Foundation Phase curriculum and Games Programme.
  • Support early and late developers, incorporating this into squad management.
  • Deliver the ‘coaching working week’ ensuring appropriate coaching hours, intensity, frequency, and rest/recovery, with multi-disciplinary input.

 

Planning, evaluation & player development

  • Support Foundation Phase part time staff with periodisation of coaching blocks, game planning, preparation, and post-match analysis (evidenced in the PMA).
  • Deliver individual player reviews using Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), in collaboration with Science and Education departments.
  • Identify squad, age, and player development needs through periodic reports and performance clock data to support progression to schoolboy contracts.
  • Work within the player competency framework to ensure alignment with the club’s performance philosophies.

 

Compliance, safeguarding & governance

  • Ensure compliance with the Club’s safeguarding framework, including inductions, lifestyle management, and exit/release strategies.
  • Oversee EPPP activities and ensure all Category 2 requirements are met with accurate and detailed data reporting.

 

Continuous professional development & collaboration

  • Achieve a minimum of 5 hours of CPD annually to maintain UEFA A Licence.
  • Create an annual departmental action plan in collaboration with the Head of Coaching and other Lead Phase Coaches.
  • Contribute to a collaborative coaching environment that supports the holistic development of players and staff.
