The Security & Safety team at Sunderland AFC We are a dedicated group of professionals committed to creating a secure and welcoming environment for players, staff, and fans during every event, from thrilling match days to community gatherings.

The Opportunity: 

Join our team as the Deputy Safety Officer and play a critical role in enhancing the safety and security of events at our stadium and club venues. You will work closely with the Head of Safety and Security to implement essential safety regulations and policies, ensuring compliance with legislative obligations such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Equality Act.  

 

This position offers the chance to oversee security systems, manage crowd safety teams, and coordinate with local emergency services, all while contributing to the continuous improvement of safety protocols. You'll be instrumental in maintaining high standards of safety compliance, conducting risk assessments, and implementing training programs for staff and stewards. As part of a dedicated team, you'll have the opportunity to influence safety practices for a range of events, from matches to concerts, ensuring a secure environment for all attendees. About The Candidate

What We Ask For: 

To be successful in the role of Deputy Safety Officer, we require candidates to hold relevant Managing Safely qualifications, such as IOSH or an equivalent recognised certification.  

 

You should have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic plans with clear action plans and key performance indicators (KPIs).  

 

A proven track record in managing safety operations for major sporting, football, or music events is essential, along with successful experience in developing and implementing stewarding plans for matches and major events. Additionally, you must possess significant understanding and hands-on experience in crowd safety management and related public order tactics.  

 

As a proven team leader, you should have experience in managing and leading a diverse team of event staff and professionals, while also promoting consistent best practice behaviours within the team.  

 

A strong awareness of applicable legislation related to venues and major events, coupled with financial acumen regarding budget control, is crucial.  

 

Furthermore, this role requires an NVQ Level 4 Spectator Safety qualification or a recognised equivalent. If you have not already achieved this, you should either be actively working towards its completion or be willing to undertake it upon joining the Club, with all costs fully covered by us. 

  

A full, clean driving license and an Enhanced DBS check are also required for this role. 

 

This role will require working on match days.
