About The Role

The First Team Physiotherapist will be responsible for ensuring that the highest standards are maintained at all times with regards to the medical provision provided to all first team players at Bristol City FC.

We are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable and innovative individual who has experience of working within elite sport to join our team.

Please note - This role involves weekend work and requires flexible working in line with the team training schedule. 

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver specialised medical assessments, ongoing treatment and emergency first aid care for match days and training.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
  • Collaborate and deliver on pre-activation an on-field rehab.
  • Support the coordination of physiotherapy services and medical arrangements, including arranging imaging and liaising with specialists.
  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team, operating as an expert within the field of physiotherapy.
  • Take the lead in making clinical management decisions and complex rehabilitation within the gym and pitch settings.
  • Be present at all training and matches (Homes/away TBC)
  • Be comfortable working with the full spectrum of injuries you would expect in a high-performance environment.
  • Play an active role in the delivery of recovery sessions following games.
  • Assist with the delivery of nutritional support under the guidance of the club nutritionist.
  • Ensure adequate cover for players needing ongoing rehabilitation through the off season.
  • Show commitment to continuing CPD and stay updated with the latest evidence in football medicine.
  • Become a travelling staff member (if required) and build relationships with the rest of the backroom staff and playing squad.
  • Maintain comprehensive medical notes and be familiar with athlete management systems for player records.
  • Be involved in pre-signing medicals and ongoing player assessments including the use of objective data collection (E.g. Vald/Force Decks/Nord Board/H-Rig etc)
  • Have an understanding of the demands of frequent travel and the challenges this presents to player and staff wellbeing.
About The Candidate

Essential Skills

  • BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy.
  • Be a registered member of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Have an up to date full Advanced Emergency Aid qualification; this should be at least Level 5 ATMMiF.
  • Attend a yearly ATMMiF-R reaccreditation.
  • Proven ability to analyse, process and translate performance data and communicate effectively to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Minimum five years experience working in elite sport.
  • Familiar with commonly used physical data recording systems and IT literate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be a UKAD Clean Sport Advisor
  • High levels of discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Desirable Skills:

  • Post-graduate Sports Medicine qualification (PGCert, PGDip, MSc etc)
  • Pitch rehab experience
  • Five years of post-graduate musculoskeletal experience
