About The Role

Job title Academy Lead Sport Psychologist

Hours of work: Part-time (25 Hours Per Week; Blended between daytime and evenings: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday)

Reports to Academy Manager

Remuneration : £18,750 per annum (pro-rata of £28,125 per annum for full-time employment)

Role Summary

We are seeking to recruit an individual who is a Chartered Sport Psychologist or a Sport Psychologist in Training to lead the psychological provision across our academy teams U9-U18’s. The successful candidate will collaborate and support staff in developing an established psychological programme within our coaching curriculum.

You will be expected to support staff in their psychological development and work closely with teams and individual players to support their psychological needs.

Managing the part time sport psychologist, you will support their development and supervise their delivery into the programme.

You would contribute to the academy wellbeing team meetings and use your psychological expertise to advise on individual cases.

In collaboration with other multi-disciplinary colleagues, you will be expected to embrace the club values and demonstrate these in your everyday actions and words.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead on the direction and evolution of an Academy Psychology Framework, which is aligned across the phases and clearly demonstrates age and stage appropriate modifications to provision along a players Academy journey.
  • Proactively Manage the U18 full time players psychological needs in tandem with the coaching staff and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensure a calendar and curriculum of content & activity is in place, widely communicated across the Academy, adhered to; and is aligned to the department framework for PDP, YDP & FP.
  • Collaborate to a player-centred environment that influences at a cultural, team and individual level.
  • Manage a psychology assistant to optimise the delivery of Academy Psychology provision across the phases.
  • To build psychological support into the daily practices and help develop coaching staff psychological awareness.
  • To promote the welfare and well-being of the players within the Academy.
  • Work closely with the Academy Manager and Head of Coaching to evolve and embed the psychological programme within the coaching curriculum.
  • Plan and lead on parental workshops to broaden their understanding of psychology.
  • To follow Club policies and procedures to ensure safeguarding of all players within the Academy.
  • The role will be based at the training ground in Portsmouth, however there will be a need totravel to a variety of venues in and around the city and on occasion, to away games or tournaments therefore living within a commutable distance from Portsmouth is essential.
  • Valid UK driving license and access to a car is essential.
  • Right to work in the UK and enhanced DBS check
 
About The Candidate

Your Skills and Experience:

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • MSc Degree in Psychology or Sport Psychology (or equivalent)
  • Enrolment on an approved training route towards HCPC registration (e.g., SEPAR, BPS Stage 2, or Professional Doctorate approved by the HCPC)
  • Excellent communication, presentation and team working skills
  • Experience working with athletes aged 8-18 years
  • People management experience
  • Strong organisational attributes
  • FA safeguarding certificate
