About The Role
Job Title: Head of Academy Performance Support
Department: Academy
Reporting to: Academy Manager & Head of Operations
Purpose: To contribute towards the development of elite athletes within the Academy
 
The accountabilities of the Head of Academy Performance Support shall include:
  • Ensure that the Academy Performance Support Department meets all EPPP rules and requirements.
  • Ensure the effective use of the Football Intelligence Platform and Performance Clocks, including ensuring that all relevant data is recorded.
  • Ensure that all required physical testing is completed in a timely manner and recorded on the Football Intelligence Platform.
  • Lead on the design, delivery and implementation of Individual Learning Plans for all players in the U9-18 age groups.
  • Managing staff within the Performance Support Department.
  • Lead the recruitment and supervision of appropriate internships.
Key Activities:
  • Co-ordinate and deliver the provision to each Academy Player of the following areas: Physical development. Psychological development.
  • The progress and development of each Academy Player under the Sports Science and Performance Support Programme.
  • Ensure that each Academy Player undergoes the following tests to measure physical and physiological fitness: Age-appropriate medical and physical screening. Anthropometric assessments. Physiological/fitness testing. Movement and posture/functional screening. Predictive testing of size and shape/maturation measurement.
  • Attendance and delivery at each training session in the U9-18 age groups.
  • Work with Coaches with regards to training load planning, primarily in the U14-18 age groups.
  • Work with the Academy Physiotherapist with the planning and implementation of the daily injury prevention work for the Youth Team.
  • Lead all Performance Support aspects for the Youth Team, including gym programmes, nutrition and psychology support.
  • Maintain all appropriate records for the Sports Science and Performance Support department. In conjunction with the Designated Safeguarding Officer, ensure all policies, practices and procedures relating to the safeguarding of young people are implemented.

Qualifications:

 

Essential:

  •  BSc (Hons) Sports Science or other related discipline
  •  FA Safeguarding Qualification
  •  Enhanced DBS Clearance 
 

Desirable:

  • Masters Degree in a related discipline
  • UKSCA Accreditation
  • BASES Accreditation 
 

Knowledge, Skills & Experiences:

 
  • Have recent and relevant professional experience in a sports performance environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Competence in all MS Office packages with experience of recording and reporting information. 
  • Experience of dealing with minors and an excellent understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures including the relevant clearances for individuals. 
  • An understanding of the EFL Youth Development rules and regulations.
  • Previous Experience of Management within an Elite Sports Environment or Academy setting working within the EPPP framework.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).
