About The Role

York City Football Club is looking for an ambitious, creative and commercially minded Head of Media, Marketing & Brand to take ownership of how the Club presents itself, communicates and engages with supporters, partners and the wider community.

Football will always be at the heart of York City FC. But as the Club grows, we want to challenge and disrupt some of the traditional perceptions of what a football club and football brand should look and feel like.

We want to respect our history without being constrained by it — bringing fresh thinking from sport, entertainment, fashion, hospitality, digital media and culture into the way YCFC communicates and presents itself.

This role will be central to that ambition.

The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the Club’s media and marketing strategy while ensuring there is a strong, distinctive and consistent YCFC identity across every supporter and commercial touchpoint.

The remit will include media, digital content, marketing, hospitality, merchandise, junior supporters and the overall YCFC brand.

Working alongside our Business Development Director, the role will also help turn the Club’s growing profile, audience and supporter engagement into stronger commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and lead the overall YCFC media, marketing and brand strategy.

Drive and evolve the YCFC brand, challenging conventional football marketing and bringing new ideas and influences into the Club.

Keep football at the centre of our storytelling while finding innovative ways to reach audiences beyond traditional football channels.

Create a brand that feels relevant to existing supporters while attracting the next generation of YCFC fans.

Take ownership of the Club’s digital and social media strategy, including matchday and non-matchday content.

Lead storytelling around the men’s team, women’s team, academy, supporters and wider Club.

Oversee website content, press communications, photography, video and social channels.

Develop creative campaigns that grow the Club’s audience and deepen supporter engagement.

Work closely with the Business Development Director to support sponsorships, partnerships and commercial campaigns.

Take marketing responsibility for hospitality, helping drive awareness, demand and sales.

Work with the retail team to develop and promote merchandise, kit launches and retail campaigns — looking beyond traditional football retail where appropriate.

Develop initiatives aimed at junior supporters, helping build lifelong connections with the Club.

Ensure sponsors and commercial partners receive strong, creative and professional media and marketing activation.

Protect and develop the YCFC brand across the stadium, training ground, retail, hospitality and digital platforms.

Manage media relationships and ensure the Club communicates professionally, quickly and consistently.

Use data and analytics to measure social reach, engagement, campaign performance, merchandise and hospitality activity.

Manage and develop members of the media/marketing team and coordinate external creative suppliers where required.

Continually look outside football for inspiration and identify new ways to increase YCFC’s profile locally, nationally and digitally.

About The Candidate

We are looking for someone who is creative, energetic, brave and commercially aware — someone prepared to challenge the way things have traditionally been done in football.

You should be comfortable moving between strategy and execution — developing the Club’s long-term brand direction one day and delivering a fast-moving matchday campaign the next.

Football experience would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in exceptional candidates from sport, entertainment, fashion, hospitality, lifestyle, media or consumer brands who can bring a different perspective to football.

You will need excellent communication skills, strong creative judgement and an understanding of how modern brands build passionate communities.

Above all, we want someone who understands that York City Football Club is first and foremost a football club — but our brand does not have to be confined by the traditional boundaries of football.

We want to respect our heritage, remain authentic to our supporters and our city, while being ambitious enough to do things differently.
