About The Role

Grimsby Town Football Club have an exciting opportunity for a Community Engagement Officer to support their Foundation and Marketing and Communications teams in promoting a wide range of community programmes.  The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the relationship of the football club and it's local community, using the power of football to inspire, educate and positively impact people of all ages and backgrounds.

This role has been funded by the PFA and EFL's Off-Pitch Pathway Scheme (OPPS), an initiative helping former players and scholars move into meaningful long-term careers away from the pitch. Administered by League Football Education, the OPPS programme is funding nine 12-month placements across EFL clubs which offer PFA members workplace experience across a range of professional departments within football clubs.

The successful applicant will gain valuable hands-on experience within a professional football club and charitable foundation, while developing skills that will support their future career:

  • Gain practical experience in community development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop strong communication and interpersonal skills by working with a wide range of audiences.
  • Build confidence through public-facing activities and ambassadorial responsibilities.
  • Gain exposure to media, content creation, and digital communications, including matchday environments.
  • Develop an understanding of how a professional football club and charitable foundation operate.
  • Enhance your employability by building transferable skills that can support future career opportunities both within and beyond the football industry.

Working closely with the Foundation and Marketing and Communications teams, key responsibilities include;
  • Supporting the work of the Grimsby Town Foundation across all its delivery channels.
  • Developing a broad understanding of each delivery area of Grimsby Town Foundation and look at innovative ways to share and promote the charity.
  • Increase awareness of the Grimsby Town Foundations social channels.
  • Enhancing the link between Grimsby Town Foundation and Grimsby Town Football Club.
  • Working with partner agencies to promote the work of the charity.
  • Working collaboratively with internal departments (e.g., marketing, media, academy) to maximise engagement opportunities.
  • Use of creative content to raise awareness and engagement within the locality. and develop and expand the social media channels.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the football club within the local community

About The Candidate

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience;

  • Passion for football and its role in community development.
  • Ability to engage with diverse groups, including young and vulnerable individuals.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate easily with a wider team and diverse audience.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A flexible approach to work as this role may include work outside of normal office hours.
  • Full driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
