Location: Pompey FC Training Ground and various locations

Hours of work: Full-time; 37.5 hours per week

Role summary

The role holder must have prior paid experience in performance analysis and must be able to display strong organisational skills in their work structure. A primary aspect of the role is around the pro-active management of the analysis coverage across the whole academy. Leading a small team of interns, you will be highly competent in supporting the development of others and presenting instructions in a clear and concise manner.

Acting as the primary figurehead for the video analysis of the U18 daily training and games programme, you will use this process to help contribute to pre and post-game presentations and to support the measurement of the playing (player development) & (team performance) and coaching curriculum across the whole academy.

Embedded within a multi-disciplinary team, you will be expected to promote analytical findings to help inform decisions around player performance, selection, and retention.

Management and deployment of interns and analysis equipment must be appropriately structured to ensure a broad coverage and recording of games of all U9-U18 age groups is achieved.

Requirements of the role

  • Design and deliver robust and effective analysis processes and protocols in line with the coaching staff and academy playing and coaching philosophy.
  • Film and analyse U18 training when required.
  • Use analysis processes to create bespoke and engaging pre and post-match team/unit/individual meetings for players and coaches.
  • Contribute to the creation of an individualised learning plan for each PDP Player and work with other Phase Leads to ensure this is supported from an analysis perspective across the academy.
  • Collate and present performance data on all U15-U18 players to support individual player development and team performance.
  • Work with the Head of Education to contribute to scholar player SEP analysis related education.
  • Manage a team of interns and support their development, whilst organising their involvement in the wider academy analysis delivery.
  • Innovate to discover new ways of using analysis to support decision making.
  • Ensure academy wide fixtures are uploaded to Hudl.
  • Create, deliver, and participate in Academy specific or wider club wide CPD events.
  • Manage and maintain the analysis equipment provision and advise on departmental needs.
  • Collaborate with the Academy manager and other senior staff to positively contribute to the Academy management team performance.

About The Candidate

Essential qualifications & skills:

  • MSc Sports Analysis Performance (completed) or other relevant master’s degree.
  • 1+ years’ experience working in an analysis department within a sports environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge and user experience of Sports Code software.
  • Experience working in an analysis department within a sport environment.
  • Experience using Hudl Pro and managing multiple video libraries.
  • Experience in organisisng data collection processed and managing large data sets.
  • FA Safeguarding Children certificate
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Proactive decision maker who can lead on analysis projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A dynamic and confident team player
  • IT Skills (Hudl/ Sports Code/ Keynote/ PowerPoint/ PMA/ My Concern systems preferable

Desirable qualifications & skills:

  • UEFA ‘C’ license
  • Staff line management experience
  • Drone License
  • Experience in data visualisation/ data programming (e.g. Python, R, Tableau)
