About The Role

Head Physiotherapist

Salary: Competitive depending on skills and experience

Contract Type: Permanent

Team: Medical

Reports To: Head of Medical

Location: Various SCFC sites across Manchester and Salford, including Littleton Road and the Peninsula Stadium.

 

The Purpose:

Our Head Physiotherapist will work across the Club to provide a first-class level of medical care and support for our players. This senior role leads the injury prevention and rehabilitation process for all squads at the Club, whilst working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver an integrated approach to player care, performance and development.  

 

The Role:

  • Lead on prevention, diagnosis, acute management and rehabilitation of all injured players.
  • Oversee all the physiotherapy provision across the Club, including the Academy in conjunction with the Head of Medical.
  • Provide accurate and informed diagnoses, treatments, advice, and rehab sessions for injured players.
  • Provide feedback to the Director of Football / Head Coach on all aspects of Physiotherapy provision, including individual case management discussions.
  • Be compliant with all professional, clinical, and integrated governance standards and participate in clinical audit and other quality assurance processes.
  • Aid in the preparation of fit players for training alongside the Head of Sport Science.
  • Provide all aspects of medical care on match day including pre-match preparation, half-time treatments and post-game assessments and treatments of players.
  • Ensure the correct medical protocol, examination and assessment of all new players prior to signing for the club.
  • Involved in the provision of pre-habilitation strategies for all players where appropriate and advise the conditioning staff of any individual player specific requirements.
  • Provide pitch side emergency cover during training sessions where appropriate and organise evacuation policies and procedures for any injured player from training pitches or the main stadium pitch.
  • Attend appointments with players who are seeing specialists where requested.
  • Communicate all decisions and actions to key stakeholders and the rest of the medical team to ensure excellent continuity of care.
  • Maintain detailed records of all actions in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. Keep accurate medical records and utilise the online system.
  • Utilise any data and information collated to inform prehab, rehab, or advise on conditioning protocols.
  • Develop protocols for management of injuries, which provides an accountable and measurable framework to work from.
  • Liaise with all staff to cascade best medical practice across all teams to ensure a smooth transition for players who train regularly at the club from the first team to youth teams.
  • Develop and deliver a CPD programme for all medical staff.
  • Ensure a seamless transition of care for any player at the club injured in play.
  • Encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the department that includes close links to all areas of the Club.
 

Qualifications

 

It's essential that you meet the following requirements and hold the following qualifications:

  • Have a degree (or higher) in Physiotherapy (2:1 or above).
  • You must be a registered Physiotherapist member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a CSP member.
  • Hold a current ATMiFF Level 5 or Sport ER Advanced Plus Qualification.
  • Hold a current FA Advanced Resuscitation and Emergency Aid certificate or Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football.
  • Experience working in an elite sport setting to ensure a seamless transition of care for any player at the Club.
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of EPPP is desirable.

 

The Club actively encourages Continuous Professional Development and is supportive of supporting staff to be the best they possibly can in their roles. We would expect the successful candidate to ensure they are keeping updated with new theory and legislation, attend any necessary FA in-service training, and participate in a program of CPD across the Medical Team.

About The Candidate

You will be a self-starter and expert in your field who thrives working within an autonomous environment making key decisions. This is a senior role so you will have a key presence at the Club with credibility and authority to serve as the lead on all physiotherapy matters at the Club.

 

You will take a hands-on approach to ensuring problems are resolved and objectives are achieved. You will be ambitious to take our physiotherapy functions at the Club forwards and have a focus on delivering high level outcomes.

The ability to act with confidentiality and discretion is key.

 

You will fulfil the role as documented in the emergency matchday protocols ensuring pitch based care when required. You will keep up to date with clinical, scientific, and technical innovations, attending meetings, courses and seminars as required, to maintain the highest level of player care.

 

The role will work closely with the Head of Medical and other medical consultants / support staff. Excellent communication is expected to ensure you are prepared for all eventualities.

 

This role will require an Enhanced DBS check and you will have a thorough understanding and qualifications in relation to safeguarding.

 

The role requires a high degree of flexibility throughout the week to support our busy training and match schedules and as such you should be prepared to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis. You will be required to work every match day including away games. Flexibility is key due to training and matches potentially changing at short notice.

 

You will need a full, clean driving licence.
